Bruce Knight

Bruce is the Managing Director of The Sessions House and has 17 years 

experience in the arts as a Performer, Director, Producer and Venue Manager. 

In 2013 Bruce received the East Lindsey Target Newspaper, Culture in the 

Community Award and Community Champions Award for enabling Spilsby 

Theatre to reopen it's doors. As a Theatre Director, Bruce's work has received 

critical acclaim from The Guardian. In the past Bruce has been a PA for an

international fashion photographer, he also has a technical, logistical and crew 

management background in film & TV lighting. Bruce is actively engaged in the local community as Chair of Lincolnshire based touring company Barmpot Theatre who make work for children, Vice Chair of Spilsby Business Partnership and recently writing and directing for SLAPS - Spilsby Local Amateur Pantomime Society. He has also worked at Woodlands Academy in Spilsby a Specialist Secondary School for SEMH pupils (Social, Emotional, Mental Health). For more information visit

Jean Shaftoe

Jean has a wealth of experience in tourism, charity work, community development and heritage projects. Jean played a key role in establishing The Lincolnshire Air Ambulance charity, the first of it's kind in the UK, managing significant public awareness and fundraising campaigns. A founder member of The Joseph Banks Society - the organisation helped to establish The Joseph Banks Centre in Horncastle as part of a heritage building restoration project whilst Jean was chair. Published writings include “Joseph Banks rooted in Lincolnshire”. As an active trustee for the Lincolnshire Community Foundation, Jean has been a co developer of the Foundation/Cornish Sisters’ anti domestic violence programme. Jean's passion for Lincolnshire's Heritage continues with The Sessions House.

Kevin Lockyer

Kevin brings a breadth of managerial experience to The Sessions House, having worked in prison and probation management, central government and the voluntary sector for nearly 30 years. He has a strong track record in operational management, strategic development and delivering large organisational change. Kevin has held senior roles in the National Offender Management Service. He has governed three prisons, been Operations Director for Nacro (a crime reduction charity with a turnover of more than £60m), been chief executive of Nacro Housing and has advised Ministers on policy and practice. Kevin is an expert on designing and implementing programmes to reduce re-offending. He is also a non-executive Director of the Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust. With a professional life connected to the theatre's history, and as a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Kevin brings a positive, innovative approach to developing The Sessions House project. Kevin is a partner at Adaptus Consulting.

Julian Cousins

Julian has a background in entertainment and conferencing and is an experienced video, lighting and sound technician. He has been technical and buildings manager for Lincolnshire County Council and in the past he was a manager at Petwood Hotel, Woodhall Spa. For many years Julian has been very active in the local community, particularly in running ‘The Getaway Club’ - an inclusive social club for adults with special needs, that serves a wide area of towns across Lincolnshire. This involves providing a regular programme of activities, entertainment and crafts for club members and lots of grass roots level fundraising. Julian has created many shows and events with The Getaway Club, including several performances at Spilsby Theatre. He is keen for The Sessions House to encourage the development of inclusive arts activities. Julian runs technical and facilities management services company Test Lincs.

Pam Davies

Pam is Spilsby Theatre’s longest serving volunteer and brings lots of experience of managing the venue, promoting events and grass roots fundraising. Having seen the theatre go through many changes, Pam now plays a key role in the office assisting with the day to day administration of The Sessions House. As a former publican, Pam also helps with running the theatre bar. Pam is a Local Parish Councillor in East Keal. As a professional gardener Pam looks after The Old Rectory in East Keal, part of the National Open Gardens Scheme. Visit The Old Rectory web page.   

Dave Start

Dave Start has recently come on board to complete the team. Dave is a former Director of Heritage Lincolnshire and is experienced in the management of Heritage regeneration projects. He has been a very active supporter of Spilsby Theatre for many years and has been a judge for the annual "A Song for Lincolnshire" competition an event celebrating local heritage that often filled Spilsby Theatre. Recently Dave has been leading 'The Spirit of Sutterby' a heritage project unearthing the history of Sutterby. Dave has studied and worked in archaeology and has also played piano for Spike Milligan!
